Alternative drive systems with UBE NYLON
Hamburg, 22 August 2017 – Hydrogen-powered vehicles using fuel cells have been gaining in popularity over the past few years. UBE, one of The NRC Group’s co-exhibitors at the 2017 FAKUMA, supplies a type of modified PA6 that is particularly well-suited for use in tank liners, one of most integral components of the pressure vessel in such cars.
Tank liners are normally made with a carbon-fiber hull to absorb pressure. PA6, however, is especially good for hydrogen tanks because it is a highly effective barrier against hydrogen gas and the material also withstands extreme loads with regard to temperature change. Additionally, it provides significant weight advantages when compared to metal solutions. In particular, UBE NYLON is a great choice for tank liners as it can be tailored for use in a variety of production methods, e.g. extrusion, injection molding and blow molding.
